Church Family Announcement
As each church in the A Jesus Church Family has continued to grow and mature, so has our relationship as a family of churches. This story began in 2004 when Solid Rock planted in Beaverton, Oregon. Since then, our vision has become to plant churches all over the city with Bridgetown in early 2010, Sunset in 2012, and Van City in 2015.
Over the years, each of these churches has established themselves as unique to their location and cultural context. They have been operating independently with their own pastors, elders, and deacons. Now, like any family, the time has come when the children move out of the house. So effective Oct 1, 2016, each church will become its own 501(c)(3). This means that each church will now have its own legal status as a non-profit organization.
While the A Jesus Church Family is changing, each church remains committed to Jesus and the work he is doing both locally and globally. We are excited to see the family of God continue to grow and develop.
What is a 501(c)(3)?
A 501(c)(3) is a tax-exemption status for any non-profit organization who’s activities qualify to the standards of the federal government, such as religious organizations and churches. Each church in the A Jesus Church Family used to belong to one 501(c)(3), but now they have each established their own. All the finances of each church are now effected by their own direct giving.
What is the future of A Jesus Church Family?
A Jesus Church Family is now becoming “A Jesus Church Network.” We are not a single church but a network of churches. While our name is changing, we will continue to value our relationships and consider ourselves a family. We are excited to see churches grow up, establish themselves among their communities, and become independent. A Jesus Church Network will continue to grow and plant new churches across the world. Even now, there are young churches preparing to plant across the Pacific Northwest.
